Memento Mori

Yeah, I know, it's been fucking forever since I last updated this page, so sue me.

Anyways... these are some alternate lyrics that I came up with for a song I heard from an AMV. You can listen to the original song here [link] to get an idea of how the lyrics fit together.

But yeah, this one came out of nowhere. It looks like something an emo kid would write, which is hilarious because my general disposition these days is that life is awesome, I'm going to school, getting into a career that I like, I've got a woman who loves me and friends who care about me. The last thing on my mind should be my eventual demise, but let's face it - it's gonna happen someday. This is the entire meaning behind the Latin phrase that is the song title. Memento mori - remember that you are mortal.

It's a depressing concept, but it all depends on how you look at it. You can spend your entire life fighting off the inevitable, or you can live your life to the fullest so that when your time is up, you can face your fate with zero regrets. That's kind of the inspiration behind the second verse's first stanza, though some of the imagery such as "greeting Death like an old friend" came from the collective works of the esteemed J.K. Rowling. And of course, I wouldn't even know what "memento mori" even means had it not been for Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, so kudos to that game for being my muse for the day.

Anyways, just remember that in the end what matters is how you lived, not how long you lived.
